Types of channel

The channels available to internal communicators are growing daily. The table here, by Liam Fitzpatrick and Sue Dewhurst, taken from Melcrum, shows a number of different channels and when you might want to use them. Intranets

Most organisations have some form of Intranet – an internal website available to nearly all, if not all staff. Intranets have evolved over recent years and can provide a personalised service to individual members of staff that help them in their day to day roles as well as being an effective communication channel. It is worth assessing your own intranet to ensure that you are maximising its use. Often it is the first thing staff see when they log on in the morning and is also the portal though to other channels such as web chats and blogs.
